I hope you all had a great weekend. We had a complete turn around from last week, sun and seasonable weather. It was great to get outside and see things come back to life. As it warms up it is so much easier to get out for a walk or run which makes it easier getting some form of exercise in.
When I’m stuck inside there are days I want to workout, but I don’t know what to do. The exercise bike isn’t appealing, my DVD collection sounds boring, running up and down the stairs doesn’t cut it. That’s when I turn to Fitness Blender. This web-site is chock full of workout videos you won’t ever get tired of the same ‘ol, same ‘ol.
Endless Free At-Home Workouts
There is a huge inventory of free workout videos. 558 videos to be exact as of this writing. The variety includes cardio, strength training, toning, yoga and flexibility, pilates, low impact and HIIT. The videos have different lengths so if you only have 10 minutes or want an hour you’ll be able to find something that fits your schedule.
The videos themselves are vary basic, as in not flashy with set and music. It’s like it’s just you and your instructor. The coaching and instruction is straight forward and easy to follow. On one side of the screen there is a calorie tracker and timer that tells you how much you should be burning at that point in the workout. In the upper left corner there is a little demo of the next exercise move coming up. I like that since I can anticipate what I will be doing and easily transition from one thing to the next. There is also a timer that times the intervals. I like to have music on while I workout to stay motivated so I usually have my favorite tunes on in background.
What makes Fitness Blender special, besides being free, is the ability to customize your workouts. You can create your own profile. Within your profile you can make a calendar and schedule workouts. This is great if you want to have, for example, cardio on certain days and strength training on others. The schedule helps you keep track of what you’re doing. When I workout I like to balance my routines so I’m not focusing on one thing. Sometimes though it’s hard to keep track of what I’ve done. The calendar keeps track of that for me. It’s also great knowing when it’s time to work out I just go the web-site, login, and my video is ready for me. You also have the ability to change your calendar. When a work-out is complete it saves the details of what you completed.
Filtering Your Workout Video
Because there are so many choices with videos Fitness Blender helps you narrow down your choices. They have a tool where you can select videos based off length of time, desired calories burned, training type, level of difficulty, body part focus and equipment needed. Make your selections and only see the videos that match your criteria. I like to use this function when making out my schedule because I can just plug in a 30 minute HIIT video for certain days, or low-impact easy workout for another day.
Workout Programs and Meal Plans
Fitness Blender does offer paid workout programs. For a fee, usually $9.99, you get a 4 week program that focuses on a certain area. You get a pre-made calendar loaded up with workouts, it tracks your progress and you also get access to tips and meal plans.
Speaking of meal plans, you can find great calendar based plans here too. Their web-site describes it best:
Built with registered dietitians and nutritionists, this healthy, clean-eating meal plan details 3 meals, and 3 snacks, every day for four weeks. There is a corresponding grocery list for each week, and there are 5 different calorie allotments to choose from so that you can customize this plan to meet your exact goals (weight loss, gain, or maintenance). Includes suggestions for modifying for food allergies, intolerance, and availability, as well as food costs, cooking for a family, and more. Couple this 4 Week Meal Plan with our 8 Week Fat Loss Programs for foolproof results. –Fitness Blender
